Ladie’s swimwear, Eaton’s Toronto, 1924. Timothy Eaton, the founder of the Eaton’s department store, was a strict Methodist. In keeping with his beliefs, the store’s show windows had curtains that were drawn every Sunday until the 1950’s to avoid tempting passersby to think of commerce on the sabbath. The store also never sold alcohol or tobacco products.
