Spaghetti, located at 32 Beauchamp Place in London, was an independent couture shop owned by Nadia La Valle – the shop’s name honoured La Valle’s Italian heritage. In business since 1976, her clientele included younger socialites with a taste for the Bohemian. Rich textiles and exotic embroideries inspired by Tangiers and Bombay (where La Valle spent much time) were typical of La Valle’s work.

    Dear Mr Walford,

it greatly amused me to find myself in the Fashion Hall of Obscurity! that was always my aim, my main concern was always to do a job well done and that left very little precious time for anything else.
Bravo for tracking down the photo of the late 70s, where did it appear?

You are only the second designer to respond to their Fashion Hall of Obscurity honour – and I am glad to see you didn’t take offence! Of course, the point of my ‘obscurier couturier’ blogs are to bring attention to designers who don’t get the attention they deserve. That pic was found online but I can’t refind it now – I know it took me a long time finding images and information about you! BTW – did you retire 2008? I extrapolated that date from what I could find.

  2. Nadia La Valle says:

I retired in 2007. Correction, Isabella’s husband is Detmar Blow not Derek.
    Best wishes.

  3. Anna Bies says:
