Mikael Derderian was born in Beirut, the son of a Canadian-Armenian father and Lebanese mother who worked designing and manufacturing children’s clothing.
The Derderian family immigrated to Montreal when war broke out in Lebanon in the 1990s. Graduating with a marketing and business degree, Mikael worked as a brand manager before returning to school to study fashion at LaSalle College where he became proficient in fashion computer aided design.
Fluent in English, French, Arabic, Armenian and Spanish, Mikael had the opportunity to work with a number of internationally renowned fashion houses, industrial groups, and Couture houses before branching out on his own.
In 2012, Mikael established his label, with a collection of only seven dresses. He is now carried by stores like Neiman Marcus, Harvey Nichols, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Holt Renfrew. His work is most often seen at red carpet events and gala evenings, and has been worn by Halle Berry, Mariah Carey, Shakira, Kylie Minogue and other celebrities.
