I enjoyed reading your perspective on this issue, Jonathan. I agree that this is an example of what fashion is all about. While the new shoes are obviously inspired by the old ones, it's not just a simple knockoff of the design. One would never mistake the Gucci shoes as being from the 1940s!

What I hate is when a vintage design is so well copied that it takes an expert to distinguish between the old and new, as in the examples given by Daniel. It just seems to be so... lazy.

Thanks again. I have an amazing vintage studded sweater from the Mirror Room (which has a mirror room label), and I am going to include a link to your article in my etsy listing. Cheers.

LOL - that's true, you would think they would be a bit cheaper considering they didn't require original designs...

The only problem i have with these designers copying and building upon a previous idea and designs of other designers is the price they ask for the products!! shame on them!!!

Thanks for the news - I hadn't heard about this museum until now. You are right, Milan does need a fashion museum (but I am partial!)

I saw it in Paris, maybe it was only there - but I remember just thinking it was so simple yet perfectly realised. I want to say one "half" of the dress was blue and one half was green but can't swear to it, and they sort of wrapped round/overlapped - it just looked really modern and DVF-y.
